Zero 10 issue highlights need for European strategy
The Institute of Directors in Jersey and Guernsey has said that it is confident that an acceptable solution to the European Union’s revised view of our tax systems will be found, and also believes this is an opportune time to take stock of how our relationship with the European Union works in practice.
Jersey Chairman, Gary Drinkwater, commented:
“The IoD will be fully supportive of our Ministers in both islands in their efforts to find revised tax systems that meet the twin objectives of EU compliance and raising revenue for the islands. We are confident that our governments will work together closely and with the business community and will devote both time and resource to resolve this important issue. We are equally confident that a solution will be found that is acceptable to all.”
Guernsey Chairman, Mark Thompson, added:
“This is the latest occasion when we have been unable to directly defend our interests in the face of external pressures. It is not the first and I doubt it will be the last. The first step is a Brussels office jointly funded by the two islands. That is now a priority.”
