Sure acts on mobile roaming charges
Sure mobile customers will receive information about roaming charges when they travel to Europe this summer.
The mobile phone operator has moved to assist customers in being aware of the costs they may build up when using a mobile when abroad, and introduced a new offer to cut roaming bills.
The EU regulator has today introduced greater protection for mobile phone and computer users from running up large data bills when overseas. The new rules will mean that users will be automatically cut off when their monthly bill reaches 50 euros, and warned at 80% of this limit.
Those rules will not apply to Channel Island operators but Sure has made two service improvements in this area.
All roaming customers will receive a welcome SMS message from Sure when they arrive in a roaming country, informing them of roaming charges.
In addition a summer promotion means new and re-signing customers will receive calls in Europe free for the duration of their contract – that is 48 European destinations, not just within the EU.
Usually people travelling would pay the cost of the received call when they are phoned while abroad.
The majority of high roaming charges are built up by people accessing data services – particularly internet downloads.
Sure will also offer advice to customers wanting more information about the best networks to use for cost while using their mobile abroad.

As part of the EU package of measures, the costs of making a call while roaming will also be reduced and Sure customers will benefit from that.
