Closing date looms for entries into the Bill Green Award
Islanders have only a few days left to nominate the company they feel deserves to win the Bill Green Trophy for the most enterprising firm as the entry deadline is 1st November 2009.
Awarded in memory of the late Bill Green the initiative is run by the Young Business Group (YBG) on behalf of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce. The accolade is presented on an annual basis and new companies or existing businesses are eligible to enter.
‘The Bill Green Award is all about enterprising companies who look set to make their mark in Guernsey businesses. Many of the previous winners of the award have gone on to become very successful local concerns,’ said YBG President Esther Dodd.
The Judges who will pay a short visit to the premises of those firms in the running for the award, are looking for a company with a sound business plan coupled with entrepreneurial spirit.
‘The purpose of the visit is for the judges to get a feel for the sort of company that is being run,’ said Miss Dodd.
‘It’s an opportunity for them to meet the company directors and ask questions about the business and its plans for the future’.
In 2008 the trophy was awarded to ‘Pet Porte’, the developers of the worlds first microchip cat flap, which was invented and patented by local vet David Chamberlain and has seen exponential expansion over the past few years. Judges were impressed by the passion shown by the directors for their product and also by the great strides it had made in developing and marketing the product since creation.
Entries, which should include a written letter explaining the background, a brief explanation of the business and future objectives and initiatives of the company can be submitted to Esther Dodd, President – Young Business Group, Willow Cottage, Les Tracheries, St Sampsons, GY2 4SU or alternately; president@ybg.gg
The entry deadline is 1st November 2009.
