Fraud Alert warning Cambridge Who’s Who
Channel Islanders are being warned that there is a scam letter circulating from an organization calling itself Cambridge Who’s Who.
The letter invites you to visit an Internet site to submit your personal details for inclusion in a free Directory of Executives and Professionals.
This letter appears to be an example of what is known as a “Vanity Publishing” scam, where the organisation is seeking to obtain personal data which will then be sold to marketing organisations or may even be used for identity theft.
Although touted as free, the likelihood is that you would be pursued for a credit card payment of hundreds of dollars to access “member benefits” of which there are none.
You are advised to ignore the letter and not to visit the Internet site which may be used to gather your IP address and other details from your browser.
