Guernsey IoD student bloggers impress judges
Wednesday 18 November 2009
Three of Guernsey’s sixth form students will be heading to London next year to rub shoulders with some of Europe’s most influential business leaders thanks to winning a competition launched by De Putron Fund Management (Guernsey) Limited.
Kirsty Jackson of Blanchelande Girls’ College, James Robson of Elizabeth College and Alex Masterson of The Grammar School will all be bound for next year’s National IoD Annual Convention in London where the cream of the political, financial and economic crop are scheduled to attend.
The winners, who successfully impressed a select panel of judges, were part of a group of ten students specially chosen by their teachers to attend this year’s Guernsey IoD debate, moderated by Alistair Stewart OBE, and blog their thoughts throughout the evening.
‘Those who judged the blogs were looking for genuine stand-out qualities. The criteria included good understanding of the issues that were discussed, a good overall writing style and a well expressed viewpoint. The judges were extremely impressed by the standards of the student’s perception and insight and I congratulate them all for their hard work,’ said Hayley De Putron, of De Putron Fund Management (Guernsey) Limited.
‘In particular the winning entries had no problem expressing their views and seized your attention in an interesting and constructive manner. The winning students had a very intelligent yet free flowing approach. All in all they were fascinating reads,’ said Mrs De Putron.
Airtel-Vodafone, the events technical sponsors of the evening, posted each of the blogs on a special web link so that all could see the event through the eyes of future young business men and women. (link below)
Judges of the competition included representatives from De Putron, the local IoD committee and event sponsors Carey Olsen.
The three winning students will be attending the National IoD event in London on 28 April 2010 at the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington. International Athletics legend Michael Johnson is already confirmed to take the stage as one of the key speakers with the remaining guest speakers yet to be announced.
