Guernsey STEP lecture date announced
The curtain raiser in a new series of Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) lectures for 2010 will take place next week, sponsored by Collins Stewart Wealth Management.
The evening presentation on Thursday 28th January will take the form of a pantomime.
The star-studded cast of AFR Advocates solicitor Michael Sproule, Carey Olsen Fiduciary Law Group partner Russell Clark, and Guernsey STEP examiner Mike McKean, will present, for the first time, ‘Know-how for sale - UK tax - to avoid or not to avoid - that is the question’.
The trio of characters, which will include George Parr, a dubious London-based adviser, Mr Genie, an officious accountant, and Mr McNeedadvice, a UK resident and domiciled client, will be introduced by Dawn Tindall of Bourse Trust.
The slapstick performance will discuss tax evasion, avoidance and efficiency and is sure to encounter a villain.
The script will focus on money laundering and foreign tax crimes.
Beginning at 5.30pm the lecture will take place in the Colbourne Room at the Old Government House Hotel and will last approximately 45 minutes, after which time attendees will turn into pumpkins.
The 12 noon lecture at the Old Government House Hotel the following day - Friday 29th January - is aimed at up and coming trust professionals.
Simon Savident, Guernsey Trust Company Limited managing director and STEP Guernsey committee member will highlight some of the key features of Company Structures at this lunchtime lecture.
An expert in Trusts and Company Administration, he will give an overview of uses and advantages of companies.
Head of Collins Stewart in Guernsey, Charlie Roger, said: ‘We are looking forward to another year of speakers worth listening to and a pantomime is a unique way to kick-start the 2010 STEP lectures. Michael Sproule, Russell Clark and Mike McKean have devised an amusing performance, which I’m sure will be very interesting and challenging. We will be welcoming our regular guests back for the New Year and would like to invite anyone with an interest in trusts to come along.’
To reserve seats at either event please email Fiona Roberts on fionaroberts@newtelsurf.com. The price to attend each event is £20 for STEP members, £30 for non STEP members and £10 for students.
