Guernsey STEP lecture details for July announced
Two philanthropy experts will talk at this week’s evening STEP lecture about working with charity beneficiaries for a smooth administration, sponsored by Collins Stewart.
The lecture will be presented by Cancer Research UK legacy development senior executive Susan Kench and legacy administration senior manager Sianne Kerrane. It will focus on understanding the particular requirements of a charity as beneficiary and particular issues of sensitivity related to administering charitable bequests.
Cancer Research UK has the largest legacy administration team in the UK charity sector, handling more than 6,500 charitable bequests each year.
The pair will unravel the issue of dealing with multiple charitable bequests and using charities as a resource for selling properties or assets, which in some cases can be rather unusual. The presentation will conclude with a short overview of the importance of legacies to the charity sector as a whole, and how legacies specifically support a multitude of groundbreaking research projects currently funded by Cancer Research UK.
In the second of this month’s lecture STEP committee member and Advocate Mark Ferbrache of AFR Advocates will give a lecture entitled “Lessons in Litigation”. The lecture will be held at lunchtime on Friday 16 July 2010 at the OGH.
Head of Collins Stewart Wealth Management in Guernsey, Charlie Roger, said: ‘STEP has once again picked up pertinent topics for the July lectures that I’m sure will be welcomed by the fiduciary community.
‘To date, the lecture series has been a great success which adds significant value to the education and ongoing development of Guernsey’s trust sector.’
Thursday’s lecture will take place at 5.30 p.m. and Friday’s will commence at 12 noon, both in the Colbourne Room at the Old Government House Hotel.
