Guiton Ambassador of the Year shortlist announced
Three names have emerged as possible winners of the 2011 Ambassador of the Year award.
The accolade, presented to an individual – or group – who has gone the extra mile to promote Guernsey’s name beyond the Bailiwick’s shores, attracted a wide range of nominees,
This year’s three shortlisted nominations, in no particular order, are world bowls star Alison Merrien, new community football club Guernsey FC and Channel swimmer Roger Allsopp.
Sponsored by the Guernsey Press’s parent company, the Guiton Group, the winner will be announced at the prestigious Awards for Achievement ceremony on Thursday 9 February at Beau Sejour.
The judging panel included Les Bourgs chairman Jurat Mike Tanguy, Advocate Rob Shepherd representing the Cheshire Home, vice-president of Guernsey Chamber of Commerce Advocate Louise Hall, IoD vice-chairman and AFM managing director Mark Palfrey, Guernsey Press managing director Mark Lewis, Channel TV’s Gary Burgess, Island FM presenter James Bentley, and Guernsey Press assistant editor Suzanne Heneghan.
Judging panel chairman Mark Lewis said: ‘This year’s judging process was a particularly difficult one due to the range and calibre of the nominees. It is never easy to choose a winner but it is wonderful to be able to recognise the efforts of those who promote Guernsey.’
The award will be presented by Guiton Group chief executive John Averty.
