Carey Olsen hosted Alderman Nicholas Anstee, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, during a visit to Guernsey this week.

In a roundtable discussion chaired by Carey Olsen Managing Partner John Greenfield and attended by several of the firm’s partners, the meeting explored a number of links between Guernsey and the City of London.
Topics discussed included the AIFM directive, the Treasury’s Foot report on the Crown Dependencies and the island’s fund sector. Carey Olsen advises on more than 50 per cent of the funds domiciled in Guernsey, much of this business referred by City firms.

During his one day visit to Guernsey the Lord Mayor met His Excellency Sir Fabian Malbon, the Lieutenant Governor of the island; Sir Geoffrey Roland, the Bailiff; local politicians and business group representatives. Discussions were held on tax matters and Guernsey’s relationship with emerging economies such as India and China.

He also visited the headquarters of the Channel Islands Stock Exchange.
“The Lord Mayor was very open and transparent about his views on business flows between the island and the City and seemed impressed with the way in which Guernsey runs its finance centre,” said Advocate Greenfield.
