Students studying beauty at the College of Further Education have been learning about the financial practicalities of setting up their own business thanks to staff from NatWest.

Three employees from NatWest’s Business and Commercial team visited the College to give the students an idea of what is entailed in running a business.

The six students considered names for their potential business, their unique selling point, likely customer base and how they would plan to maintain and build on this. They also learnt about the expenses that come with running a business such as utilities, salaries and rental costs and finally considered the advantages and disadvantages of setting up their own enterprise.

Julie Chawker from the College of Further Education commented:

“The students find it hugely beneficial to learn about how to run a small business. The staff from NatWest are always very generous with their time and ensure their classes are lively and engaging, giving valuable insight into the business side of the beauty industry.”

Joanna Attwood, assistant relationship director at NatWest, commented:

“This is the second year that we have delivered this session to the beauty students and it is a great tool for giving them the chance to consider what setting up a business entails. Many students realise that it is an attainable prospect to work towards as their career progresses and they learn how a bank such as NatWest can play a part in helping it become a reality.”
