Ecomodo
This week sees the timely launch of a Guernsey based online service which hopes to provide a real alternative to our consumptive lifestyles whilst also enriching people’s lives. With Guernsey’s new ‘towards zero waste’ strategy we need systems in place to make the experience of living with less consumption more appealing and easier than the systems we currently have in place.

Ecomodo is a new social enterprise with that belief at its heart. Ecomodo builds upon real life communities to create resource pools. They enable confident lending and borrowing of objects, skills and spaces within communities. Imagine the sheds, lofts, garages and cupboards of your neighbours, friends and colleagues all opened up for you to use. Imagine the range of equipment and the corresponding opportunities that would arise, without investing yourself in expensive, bulky and seldom used new equipment.

Items can be lent for free, for a fee or to raise funds for charity. Lenders can control who to lend to by creating and joining lending circles where they feel they have a basis for trust. Ecomodo further increases this confidence by providing insurance and deposit holding.

Although Guernsey based, Ecomodo is launching throughout the British Isles and hopes to become one of Guernsey’s future ecommerce success stories.
