The Commerce and Employment Department’s (C&E) Renewable Energy Team (RET) has published its strategic plan which sets out a long term vision and strategy for marine macro renewable energy (offshore wind, wave and tidal power) in Guernsey.

Deputy Robert Sillars, Chairman of RET said: “C&E, through RET, has the important task of progressing macro marine renewable energy in Guernsey and it is essential that we have a clear, realistic and comprehensive strategy for local marine renewable energy.

“This document also indicates Guernsey’s position to the renewable energy industry which should assist investment in the future. C&E has been working on renewable energy since late 2008 and we feel it is important to continue to communicate the vision and strategy for renewables to all who are interested.”

The comprehensive document entitled “Renewable Energy Team Strategy – 2012 and beyond” shows what levels of local marine renewable power we may hope to see by the end of this decade, as well as what other positive impact renewable energy may have in Guernsey.

In addition to the vision, RET clearly sets out the route map and the local and industry conditions and information which are required to ensure that Guernsey can take full advantage of local renewable energy and the objectives on which RET will focus.

Deputy Robert Sillars added: “Energy and its affect on Guernsey’s future is a very current topic with the Energy Plan being debated in the States in January. Renewable energy is an important part of the whole energy mix and RET’s strategy is in alignment with this debate and past energy policies.”
