Following careful consideration of the Milk Price Review by the independent Milk Price Review Panel in July of this year, the Commerce and Employment Department advises that the retail price of milk from the Guernsey Dairy will rise by 3p per litre on the 7th October 2012.

From that date the fixed price for a litre pack of Guernsey Dairy milk will be 108p in shops and on doorsteps.

The new retail prices for milk sold locally will become:-

Skimmed, semi-skimmed, & full cream - Litre packs 108 pence
Half litres - (types as above) 61 pence
Organic Milk - Half litres 80 pence

The price changes implement, in full, recommendations from the independent Milk Price Review Panel which considered submissions from, and had discussions on milk pricing and factors affecting the supply chain with, the key dairy industry stakeholder groups.

Comment from Kevin Stewart
“This is my first year as Minister of this Department, and I have been impressed to see the care and attention to detail used by the Milk Price Panel in arriving at their recommendations.

They have a difficult task balancing the understandable needs and wishes of various parties for increases in revenue, with the need to hold back retail prices to assist consumers.

I believe that after this modest increase our excellent quality locally produced milk is still available at a realistic price for Island customers.”
