Famous forager, John Wright of River Cottage fame, and a renowned world enthusiast on foraging, will be visiting Sark on the 1st and 2nd September 2012.

He will be staying at Stocks Hotel and leading a series of tutored walks around Sark incorporating foraging from the fields, hedgerows and coastal foreshores of the Island to source a variety of natural edible produce. In conjunction with the Head Chef at Stocks Hotel, Byron Haytor, John will then be demonstrating how to utilise the islands natural harvest in an interesting selection of especially devised menus.

Sark is famous for being car free and having low input farming. As such the island is virtually pollution free and has a wealth of wonderful flora and fauna on the island and on the shore.

“Stocks Hotel in Sark is thrilled to be hosting John for his visit to Sark” said Paul Armorgie, General Manager and Director of Stocks. “Following the Artist for Nature Foundation’s, Art for the Love of Sark project earlier this year which focused on the island’s unique natural heritage, John’s visit to Sark reinforces the enourmous value that the islands natural flora and fauna has for all of us and we hope that visitors and locals alike will be able to enjoy John’s skills as a forager as well as the culinary delights that he will help cook up.”

“I often get the opportunity to travel around with my forays but for the first time I will be going (slightly) overseas” said John Wright of his forthcoming trip. “On the 1st and 2nd of September I will be in Sark taking seashore and hedgerow forays based at the truly splendid Stocks Hotel. It should be an amazing couple of days with a talk on foraging on the Saturday evening and a serious foray on the Sunday.”
