Wave launches in flight roaming service with AeroMobile
Wave Telecom has launched GSM roaming with AeroMobile. AeroMobile AS provides roaming facility onboard aircrafts, enabling global coverage. It is a safe, cost effective solution allowing passengers to use their mobile phones and PDA's whilst in flight. As a result of the agreement, Wave subscribers are now able to use their handset on board a large number of flights.
Wave customers are now able to use their mobiles on a range of Emirates aircrafts (B777s, A330s and A340s) on 74 routes to and from Dubai, including London’s Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
Guy Pipon, Deputy Managing Director of Wave Telecom, said: “We are very proud to be the first in the Channel Islands to launch the On Aircraft Roaming service in cooperation with AeroMobile. The partnership offers our customers complete roaming coverage on certain routes when travelling with Emirates.”
The use of phones on board aircraft has historically been prohibited by the airline industry, this service however, has been welcomed by companies such as Emirates as the technology prevents any harmful interference with aircraft systems.
The service isn't available on all flights yet and some services may be restricted by the airline, and some airlines are also limiting the number of passengers who use the service at any one time in order to reduce cabin noise.

Wave Telecom anticipates further airline’s employing the technology on their aircraft in the not too distant future.
